George Washington Hollingshead was born December 22, 1855, in Indiana and died December 7, 1935, in the City of Woodland, Woodland Twp., Yolo Co., CA, at age 79. He was the son of George Hollingshead of Ohio and Susannah Chamberlain of Ohio.

Emma Jane Shidell was born December 24, 1866, in Oakfield Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI, and died August 5, 1929, in the City of Woodland, Woodland Twp., Yolo Co., CA, at age 62. She was the daughter of Adam William Scheidel of France and Lucinda Matilda Abbey of Canada.

George and Emma were married September 4, 1882, in Stevens Point, Portage Co., WI. 

George and Emma had eleven children:

  1. Alley Bell Hollingshead: Born before 1900 in Wisconsin; Died before 1900 in Wisconsin.
  2. Hazel Hollingshead: Born before 1900 in Wisconsin; Died before 1900 in Wisconsin.
  3. Sarah Jane "Sadie" Hollingshead: Born April 23, 1883, in Carson Twp., Portage Co., WI; Died July 3, 1967, in Wausau, Marathon Co., WI (age 84). Married May 19, 1902, at the residence of her parents in Sherry Twp., Wood Co., WI, to Albert Joessrukeim Boucher: Born January 31, 1881, in Sheridan Twp., Cherokee Co., IA; Died December 23, 1956, in Sacramento Co., CA (age 75). In the mid 1930s Albert decided to leave for California, and Sadie remained in Wisconsin. Albert never returned to Wisconsin.
  4. William Adam Hollingshead: Born April 16, 1885, in Wisconsin; Died October 23, 1979 in Woodland, Yolo Co., CA (age 94).
  5. George Washington Hollingshead: Born September 10, 1889, in Georgetown, WI; Died July 6, 1954, in Sutter Co., CA (age 64).
  6. Inez Juanita Susan Hollingshead: Born March 30, 1895, in Wisconsin; Died December 19, 1937, in Unknown (age 42).
  7. Nellie Henrietta Hollingshead: Born January 19, 1898, in Wisconsin; Died December 16, 1978, in Contra Costa Co., CA (age 80).

Mrs. Shidell Dies In East

Mrs. George W. Hollingshead of this city today received news of the death of her mother, Mrs. L. M. Shidell, who passed away at Militor, Wisconsin on February 6th. News was also received of the death of her two uncles, Ike and Charels Abbey, the former passing away during January and the latter on March 5th. The two men are brothers of Mrs. Shidell who is the mother of 11 children, the oldest whom is Mrs. Hollingshead. Charles Abbey was killed in an automobile accident.

Emma Jane (Shidell) Hollingshead died  August 5, 1929 in the City of Woodland, Woodland Twp., Yolo Co., CA at age 63.

DEATH TAKES WELL KNOWN RESIDENT

Mrs. Emma J. Hollingshead died Monday evening at 6:45 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. L. Bowen, 811 Second street. She succumbed following a stroke of paralysis. Ill for several months, Mrs. Hollingshead seemed to be showing gradual improvement. Recently she underwent an operation. Born in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin, December 24, 1866, Mrs. Hollingshead was 63 years of age. She was the head of a family of seven children, 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hollingshead was well known and highly respected in the city. She had been a resident of Woodland for the past nine years and during that time she had made many friends. The following relatives survive: J. W. Hollingshead, the widower; Mrs. J. A. Boucher of Marshville, Wisconsin, Mrs. M. L. Bowen of Woodland, Mrs. Nellie Plumtree of Woodland, Mrs. Ray Mayfield of Woodland, daughters; George W. Hollingshead, Jr., of Woodland, John Hollingshead of Woodland,  W. A. Hollingshead of Woodland, sons. Five brothers and three sisters also survive. They are William Shidell, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, John Shidell of Portland, Oregon, Wallace and Dixon Shidell of Wisconsin, James Shidell of South Dakota. The sisters are Mrs. John Becker of Rudolph, Wisconsin, Mrs. Matt Paulson and Mrs. Charles Shorrey of Schofield, Wisconsin. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed by the Krellenberg company.

Also living there is Emma's widowed father George Hollingshead (age 74) born in Indiana to Missouri and Wisconsin-born parents and first married at age 26 who is a carpentry builder.
