Fern Emily Rosebud Nelson was born October 28, 1907, in Iona, Dixon Twp., Gregory Co., SD, and died March 19, 2009, in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR, at age 101. Buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver, Clark Co., WA. She is the daughter of Clarence Cornelius Nelson of Rockford, Winnebago Co., IL, and Edith Christina Larson of the Town of Farmington, Waupaca Co., WI.

VERDUS B. PETERSON

The funeral for Verdus B. Peterson will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver. Mr. Peterson died of cancer Wednesday in his Vancouver home. He was 81. Born April 13, 1911, in Bijou Hills, S.D., Mr. Peterson was a retired welder. He had lived in the Vancouver area since 1964. Survivors include his wife, Fern N. of Vancouver; a son, George of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Louise Patterson of Portland; brothers, Howard of Seaview, Wash., Steve of Rapid City, S.D., and Colvin of Vancouver; sisters, Eva Hersch of Vancouver and Alpha Graves of Long Beach, Wash.; and three grandchildren.


Fern Emily Rosebud (Nelson) Peterson died March 19, 2009, in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR, at age 101. Buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver, Clark Co., WA.

FERN E. NELSON PETERSON

Oct. 28, 1907 - March 19, 2009

Fern E. Nelson Peterson of Milwaukie, OR, passed away on March 19, 2009. She was born in Iona, SD on Oct. 28, 1907 to Clarence and Edith Nelson. In South Dakota she taught school for seven years in a one room school house. On June 11, 1934 Fern and Verdus Peterson were married. They moved to Amboy, WA in 1936 until 1964 when they moved to Vancouver, WA. Fern lived in her home in Vancouver until 2007 when she moved to live with her daughter in Portland, OR. In October of 2007 she celebrated her 100th birthday with a grand party at her niece and nephew, Joanne and Walt Garrison of Ridgefield, WA. She loved life and serving others. Fern is survived by her son, George Peterson of OK; daughter, Louise Patterson of Portland, OR; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; with two sisters still living, Olive Dirks of Ferndale, WA and Laural Nelson of Astoria, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Verdus; mother and father; three brothers; three sisters. Memorial services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 N.
