Weekly Free Press, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co., WI, Thursday, September 1, 1892 DROPPED DEAD. Geo. A. Lenderbeck, a Carpenter, Dropped Dead on First Avenue. About 4:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, George A. Lenderbeck, a carpenter residing at 710 First avenue, dropped dead upon the sidewalk nearly in front of Johannes's saloon on First avenue. Mr. Lenderbeck was a German by birth, about 35 years of age, had a wife and three small children, and was a hard-working man. For some time past one of his eyes had been afflicted and he was returning home from a visit to the doctors on the East side when death so suddenly overtook him. The body was at once carried into the saloon and placed upon a stretcher and a physician called, but he could be of no service. The news was sent to the dead man's family, and they soon arrived. The sighs and tears of the widowed mother and three little ones as they stood around the dead body of the once loved husband and father were sad and piteous indeed. The Eau Claire Sunday-Weekly Leader, Eau Claire, Eau Claire Co., WI, Sunday, September 4, 1892 A TRAGIC DEATH. George A. Lenderbeck, a Carpenter, Falls Dead While Walking to His Home. Feeling the Faintness Creeping Over Him He Tries to Find a Seat and Rest. A sudden death on First avenue about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon drew scores of people to the saloon kept by John M. Johannes, at No. 776. George A. Lenderbeck, a carpenter living near Niagara street on Fourth avenue, was seen by one or two small boys trying to sit down upon a beer keg in front of the saloon. Suddenly he fell to the sidewalk and when Officer Neher and others reached him he was found to be dead. They carried him into the saloon, and summoned his relatives. A sister and mother of Mrs. Lenderbeck live in the same block and they were soon called in. When the wife was brought, with the three young children, a sorrowful scene was enacted. The undertaker had placed the body upon a frame. The wife from the doorway saw the remains and with a hearty-rendering cry "My God, my husband!" she sprang to the bier and threw both arms about the inanmate body. Other women present were also loudly weeping and the bereaved wife had to be almost forcibly taken from her husband's side. Chief Higgins took the matter in charge and particulars were gleaned. The dead man while on the drive last spring was struck by a limb and received a severe cut over the eye, a wound which he was still doctoring, and it was said yesterday he was returning home from the physician's office when he was stricken down. He had walked across Kelsey street bridge, turned up First avenue, and feeling made to sit down upon a beer keg. He missed the keg and fell on the sidewalk, and seems to have died instantly. The cause was heart disease. He leaves a wife and three children in poor circumstances. His father-in-law is W. J. Taylor of 708 Ann street. There is a "George A.
