A Fatal Railroad Wreck.

The latest reports of the Wisconsin Central wreck, which occurred at Des Plaines, Ill., last Friday morning confirms the report that it was one of the worst that has taken place on the Central lines in many years. Engineer John Scheidel and Fireman Walter Sherman, both of Fond du Lac, were so badly injured in the wreck and scalded by escaping steam that they died the same day, after suffering untold agony. Brakeman Daniel Pineo, also of Fond du Lac, who was in the cab of the wrecked engine, received serious injuries, but will probably recover. The wreck was caused by the engine leaving the rails at a switch, while going at a high rate of speed and was hurled down the embankment, burying the three railroad men beneath the wreckage. Eleven freight cars were piled up, blocking the road for a distance of several hundred feet. Walter Sherman, the dead fireman, was well known in this city, where he had many friends. He formerly lived in Stevens Point, where his parents and a brother and sister still reside. He was  married only a short time ago and lived in North Fond du Lac. His parents and wife were with him when he died.
