They had a daughter who married Unknown Cordova. Cecil Oscar Butler was born April 24, 1899, in East Saint Louis, Saint Clair Co., IL, and died September 30, 1962, in Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., NM, at age 63. He was the son of John Butler and Catherine Shircliff. Lois Griffith was born Unknown; Living. She is the daughter of Mark Law Griffith and Cassie Woods Aldredge. Cecil Oscar Butler and Lois Griffith were married about 1950 in Unknown. GARRETT - Harriet "Jayne", 89, longtime Muskogee resident
and widow of Howard L. Garrett, died June 7, 2008, at Senior
Suites in Broken Arrow, OK. Jayne was born in El Paso, TX,
to Mark L. and Cassie Griffith on September 12, 1918. She
grew up in Muskogee and spent much of her childhood and
teenage years on G and East Broadway Streets near the
downtown area. Jayne was educated in the Muskogee public
school system and graduated from Central High School with
the Class of 1936. As a young woman, Jayne worked as a
journalist and wrote a "Dear Abby" type advice column for
The Muskogee Phoenix, and continued her studies at Draughn's
Business College. Jayne also worked as fashion model for
Susman's Clothing on Broadway Street in Muskogee. While at
Ridge Crest Baptist Church Camp in North Carolina, Jayne
received a proposal of marriage from Howard Garrett. The
young couple rendezvoused in Little Rock, AR and married
there on July 27, 1940. They made their home in Muskogee and
remained faithful members of The First Baptist Church. Jayne
taught Sunday School for young couples and young women,
especially nursing students from the Baptist Hospital system
and Bacone College. Jayne managed her husband's business for
many years, but always saw her true career as a homemaker
and a mother. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed
watching her children grow up and become the individuals
they are today. Jayne and other members of First Baptist
Church went to Israel in 1973 and during the trip, Mrs.
Thompson, head of the social services department encouraged
Jane to work for The Department of Human Services. At the
age of 56, Jayne embarked on a new career as a welfare
caseworker for the State of Oklahoma. Mrs. Garrett was civic
and Christian minded throughout her life and served on the
Salvation Army Auxiliary Board of Directors and occupied the
position of Chaplain. Her social life was also important to
her, and was active in numerous bridge clubs and activities
at Kate Frank Apartments, where she lived since 1995. She
was also a member of the "Special Friends Sewing and Lunch
Group". This provided her an opportunity to catch up with
good friends and enjoy a great love for mending things.
Jayne will be remembered as a friendly, wonderful hostess
with a gracious, genteel, southern charm. Her close friends
and church family will dearly miss her. Mrs. Garrett was
preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 57 years,
Howard L. Garrett; 1 sister, Ann Eisenstein; and 2 brothers,
Joel W. Griffith, and Mark L. Griffith. She is survived by:
her sister, Lois Butler of Rio Rancho, NM; brother, Norris
and wife Iva Jean Griffith of Norman, OK, and sister-in-law,
Virginia Lee Garrett of Muskogee. She is also survived by:
son, David Mitchell Garrett and wife, Kathy of Tulsa; and
daughter, Susan Jane Hickman of Broken Arrow, OK. Also
surviving are her grand- children, Mitchell Garrett and wife
Amber of Tulsa, Elizabeth Linhart and husband, Neil of
Dallas, TX, Joshua Garrett and wife, Laura of Sand Springs,
OK, Sarah Jane Garrett of Norman, OK, Sarah Kathrine Beard
of Tulsa, OK, Melissa Burnett and husband Jason of
Washington, D.C., Robert Mileff of Washington D.C., Daniel
Hickman, of Tulsa, Paul Hickman and wife Marcie of Chapel
Hill, N.C., William Hickman and wife, Shelley of Norman, OK,
and Cindy Banks of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by 9
great-grandchildren and many loved nieces, nephews and
cousins. Funeral Service will be at 1:30p.m., Tuesday, June
10, at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Reverend Martin
Hawley officiating, her nephew. Visitation will be from 6
p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Monday, June 9, at Foster-Petering
Funeral Home in Muskogee, OK. Interment will be in Greenhill
Cemetery, Muskogee. The family wishes to express our sincere
appreciation to the staff of Grace Hospice and Senior Suites
Nursing Center in Broken Arrow, OK. Friends may make
