He is the son of Francis Abbey of Durham Co., Canada West, and Mary J. (Unknown) of Illinois. Myrel G. Chaffin was born August 24, 1901, in Inavale Twp., Webster Co., NE, and died December 8, 1997, at Community Care of Blue Hill, Blue Hill, Webster Co., NE, at age 96. She is the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Chaffin Jr. of Blandinsville Twp., McDonough Co., IL, and Fannie Margaret Chaplin of McDonough Co., IL. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Abbey was born Aug. 24, 1901, to Thomas and Fannie (Chaplin) Chaffin in Cowles. On Sept. 3, 1919, she married Walter L. Abbey in Hastings. They moved to Hastings from Blue Hill in 1938. She was a homemaker. She was a former resident of Autumn Park Apartments. Her husband died Sept. 18, 1966. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Eagles Auxiliary, past state commander of DAV Auxiliary and was active in VFW Auxiliary. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois; one sister and three brothers. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
