Virgil Lamb was born about 1818 in New York and died 1885-1886 in Idaho. He was the son of Unknown.

Almira Harrington was born February 1830 in New York and died after 1900 in Unknown. She was the daughter of John M. Harrington of Massachusetts and Eliza Unknown of New York.

Virgil Lamb and Almira Harrington were married January 3, 1849, in Fond du Lac Co., WI.

Virgil Lamb and Almira (Harrington) had five children:

  1. Frank B. Lamb: Born July 1852 in Illinois; Died after 1900 in Unknown. Lived in Oneida Co., Idaho Territory, in 1880.
  2. John Marvin Lamb: Born August 26, 1855, in Kankakee Co., IL; Died April 6, 1907, in Boise, Ada Co., ID (age 51). Married December 17, 1879, in Boise, Ada Co., ID, to Jane "Jennie" Lawrence: Born August 1860 in Missouri; Died after 1930 in Oregon??.
  3. Charles Edward "Eddie" Lamb: Born April 27, 1873, in Lake Twp., Newton Co., IN; Died after 1920 in Unknown. Married about 1895 to Sarah D. Unknown: Born about 1878 in Pennsylvania; Died after 1920 in Unknown.
  4. Unknown Lamb: Born Unknown; Died Unknown.

JOHN M. LAMB was born in Kankakee County, Illinois, August 26, 1855. His father was a farmer, and John was reared as a farmer's son, but received a liberal education, and soon engaged in other pursuits.

In May, 1878, he came to Idaho, where he has since resided. His business interests in Boise City and the Territory are numerous and extensive.

From 1878 to 1880 he held the office of Territorial Secretary, since which he has engaged in business for himself. Besides being a real estate agent, money loaner, and keeping a complete set of abstracts of Ada County property, he is engaged in the manufacture of lumber, having one-half interest in two mills. He is owner of Lamb's Marble Works, Boise City. He is connected with several enterprises, among which is that of reclamation of desert lands by constructing irrigating ditches.

He is now President of the Indian Valley Irrigation Company, which is constructing an extensive ditch to convey water from the Boise River to lands lying some distance southwest of Boise City. This ditch will open up from 12,000 to 15,000 acres as already planned, but if enlarged according to intention will bring more than 100,000 acres under cultivation and improvement.

Mr. Lamb is an extensive land owner, now being possessed of about 2,000 acres of unreclaimed desert. He also owns two and one-third blocks in Boise City, on which he has 150 trees of superior kinds.

In 1879 he married Miss Jennie Lawrence, a native of Missouri.

Virgil Lamb and Almira Harrington were married January 3, 1849, in Fond du Lac Co., WI. Almira was the sister of Abigail (Harrington) Watson.

The 1850 U. S. Census taken on August 15, 1850 showed John M. Harrington (age 62) born in Massachusetts with real estate of $1,000 is a Farmer living in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI. Living with him is his wife, Eliza Harrington (age 42) born in New York. Also there are: Marvin Harrington (age 19) born in New York; son, Amaza Harrington (age 16) born in New York; Lucretia Harrington (age 14) born in New York; Delos Harrington (age 14) born in New York, and Hellen Harrington (age 4) born in Michigan. Also living there are Charles Bates (age 16) born in Michigan, and Hannah Cildri? (age 17) born in Ireland.

William Watson was born about 1819 in Ireland and died 1850-1855 in the Town of Penfield, Monroe Co., NY, at about age 35.

Orrin Abbey and Abigail Watson were married on March 28, 1855 at the residence of her father, John M. Harrington, in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI.

The 1860 U. S. Census taken on July 20, 1860 shows J. M. Harrington (age 72) born in Massachusetts with personal property of $91 is a Physician living in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI. Also living there is his wife, Eliza Harrington (age 53) born in New York, and daughter Hellen Harrington (age 14) born in Michigan.

The 1860 U. S. Census taken on June 7, 1860 shows Virgel Lamb (age 42) born in New York with real estate of $5,200 and personal estate of $1,200 is a Farmer and is living in Kankakee, Kankakee Co., IL. Living with him is Almira Lamb (age 31) born in New York. Also living there are: Frank Lamb (age 8) born in Illinois; John Lamb (age 5) born in Illinois; Lizzie Watson (age 17) born in New York; and Warran Watson (age 14) born in New York. A Domestic and a Servant also live in the household.

Living with him are: Helen Clock (age 24) born in Michigan to Massachusetts and New York-born parents, who is Keeping House; Argyl Clock (age 2) born in Wisconsin to New York and Michigan-born parents; and Eliza Harrington (age 65) born in New York to New York-born parents, who has No Occupation.

The 1870 U. S. Census taken on August 11, 1870, shows Virgil Lamb (age 51) born in New York is a Farmer living in Lake Twp., Newton Co., IN. Living with him is Almira Lamb (age 41) born in New York, who is Keeping House. Also living there are: Frank Lamb (age 17) born in Illinois; and John M. Lamb (age 15) born in Illinois.

The 1880 U. S. Census taken on June 7, 1880  shows Eliza Harrington (age 72) born in New York is a mother-in-law widow suffering from consumption living in Byron Twp., Fond du Lac Co., WI. She is in the household of Joseph Klock (age 34) a farmer born in New York with personal estate valued at $300, and no real estate. Also there is his wife Helen Klock (age 34) born in Wisconsin who is keeping house, and their son Argyl Klock (age 12) born in Wisconsin.

The 1880 U. S. Census taken on June 1, 1880, shows Virgil Lamb (age 61) born in New York to New York and Massachusetts-born parents is a Teamster living on Hays Street, City of Boise, Ada Co., Idaho Territory. Living with him is his wife, Almira Lamb (age 50) born in New York to New York-born parents, who is Keeping House. Also living there is his son: Eddie Lamb (age 8) born in Indiana to New York-born parents. John Lamb lives next door.

Living with him is his wife, Jennie Lamb (age 20) born in Missouri to Illinois and Kentucky-born parents, who is Keeping House.

The 1900 U. S. Census taken on June 19, 1900, shows Almira Lamb (age 70) born February 1830 in New York to New York and Massachusetts-born parents with 3 of the 5 children born to her still alive is a widowed Farmer renting her farm and is living in Island Precinct, Blaine Co., ID. Living with her is an unmarried Hired Man: Thomas Porter (age 23) born March 1877 in Iowa to Indiana-born parents, who is a Farm Laborer.

The 1900 U. S. Census taken on June 9, 1900, shows John M. Lamb (age 40) born March 1860 in Illinois to New Hampshire and New York-born parents owns his own home and is living at 511 Fourth Street, Boise City, Ada Co., ID. Living with him is his wife of 20 years, Jennie L. Lamb (age 44) born August 1855 in Missouri to Illinois and Kentucky-born parents, with the only child born to her still alive, who is an Insurance Agent. Also living there is his son, John M. Lamb (age 14) born April 1886 in Idaho to Illinois and Missouri-born parents.

GUARDIAN APPOINTED. - Judge Koelsch yesterday appointed Mrs. Jennie M. Lamb guardian for her husband, who has been incompetent for several years. She has asked permission to sell certain portions of the community real estate.


Interesting to note that John M. Lamb was judged an Incompetent person by June 1901, and Jennie L. Lamb was listed as Guardian of his estate.

Saturday Death - John M. Lamb died yesterday in this city at the age of 47 years. Paralysis from which he had been an invalid for a number of years, was the cause of death. The funeral will be held at 2:30 this afternoon from the undertaking parlors of Schreiber & Sidenfaden. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery. The K. of P.'s who have cared for the deceased for several years, will have charge of the services.

The Hailey Inter-Idaho, says the late Virgil Lamb's ranch consisting of 480 acres of land, three miles from Hailey, with stock and fixtures, was sold this week to an Englishman for ten thousand dollars.
