Darius Nelson was born May 30, 1848, in Lomira Twp., Dodge Co., WI, and died January 15, 1929, in Fitzgerald Twp., Ben Hill Co., GA, at age 80. He is the son of Horatio Nelson of Otham, County Kent, England, and Angeline Reed of Monroe Co., NY. Harriet Matilda "Hattie" Serl was born June 3, 1861, in Dekalb Co., IL, and died September 4, 1929, in Fitzgerald Twp., Ben Hill Co., GA, at age 68. She is the daughter of Henry Searle of Hope Twp., Durham Co., Canada West, and Charlotte Clarinda Fuller of Pennsylvania. Prior to Wisconsin statehood on May 29, 1848, Milwaukee County was part of the Territory of Wisconsin and was very large and extended westward to include what would eventually become Dodge County (among others). Mr. Nelson was one of the early settlers, having located near Inavale in 1876. He left here in 1880 and went to Harvard, Neb., where he resided until about twelve years ago, when he joined the Fitzgerald colony of old soldiers who went to Georgia to establish a colony.
