Leigh Larson visited the cemetery on June 20, 2003 and can confirm that the appearance has not improved over the years. A neighbor said for a few years a local 4-H group maintained the grounds, but that ended some time ago. Essentially this is a small overgrown woodlot with many overturned, broken or sunken gravestones. ROHLF CEMETERY. Town of Eden, Fond du Lac County; Section 31. Location: This cemetery is located on Co. Hwy Y, one mile east of Co. K. The cemetery is on the north side of the Hwy. where Co. Y turns a sharp right and a Country road forks left. It is on a small hill and cannot be recognized as a cemetery until you climb the road embankment, and see the stones. It is extremely overgrown and neglected. The stones are scattered throughout the cemetery. History: On April 8, 1853 Alfred Bliss and wife Harriet R. sold to Quimby Hayes, Elias Wilbur and Zopher B. Edwards (age 89) born in Alsace-Lorraine, France to Alsace-Lorraine-born parents and a naturalized citizen is a widow living in her own house at 355 Doty Street, 15th Ward, City of Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Co., WI. Living with her is her widowed daughter, Sarah Reithehibach/Reithchibad (age 61) born in New Jersey to Alsace-Lorraine-born parents. Sarah Kuntz (born about 1855 in New Jersey) first married Carl Gustave Junknik (Unknown - about 1925; Ch. Paul Immanuel Jungnik: B. July 17, 1879 and died September 10, 1879. then married Unknown Reithehibad Mr. Jacob Shidel was of the frugal, honest German type and was in all respects a worthy neighbor and a good citizen. He is survived by his widow and two children, Fred C. Shidel of Amherst and Mrs. E. C. Ellis of this city. His oldest son, John A. Shidel, an engineer on the Wisconsin Central, was killed in a wreck at Des Plaines five years ago. He also leaves a brother and sister and half-sister, Adam Shidel of Milladore, Mrs. Elizabeth Burns of Shiocton, and Mrs. Sarah Edwards of Fond du Lac. Fred Shidel had been assisting in the care of his father since Friday. The brother and sister are here and Mrs. Edwards will also be present at the funeral. He was a member of the local Grand Army post. |
